Why I Want to Teach Moms SEO

Ya know, when I mentioned to my girlfriend that I wanted to create an ebook or teach a class on what I know about SEO for mom bloggers and mom entrepreneurs, she asked me why. She said, why give your advice away for the cost of an ebook. Won’t that put your consulting services out of business?

I think a lot of people think like that. They fear teaching others what they know because they feel that will somehow lower their worth.

Maybe they’re right. When I was a Color Manager, i taught so many what I knew, that eventually I wasn’t needed anymore. Seriously. I created training manuals and had group sessions and one-on-one training. Eventually I wasn’t needed anymore.

And by the time it was realized that I was needed, that technology changes and that’s why you need an expert on hand, well I was already generating income here, on ABB, so i turned them down.

I’m not afraid of teaching others what I know because I will never stop growing.

And I want to empower my fellow moms. And I like working from home.

Teaching what I know is just another step in my journey.

Here’s what I sent to my list of Mompreneurs when I decided to make the leap.

So many beautiful authentic blogs, filled with hope, inspiration, practical advice, and the inside scoop on topics that us moms enjoy, that should be adored by Google, are buried on page 6 of the search results.
Does anyone ever dig that far?
And while the moms who know their shit and have the experience and knowledge to share what you really need to know are standing in the sidelines, nothing but brands and Internet savvy affiliate marketers clutter up page one of the search results.
Here’s an example for you.
Though Circle Of Moms cited the top 115 eco friendly mom blogs in 2011 (http://www.circleofmoms.com/top25/eco-friendly) when I searched google for eco friendly cleaning products – at the time of this writing – I didn’t come across a mom blog until page 9 where I found the Familylicious Reviews and Giveaway blog (http://familylicious.com/rockin-green-eco-friendly/) were a fellow mom blogger shared her review of an eco friendly soap. That page ranks #89.

Who holds the 88 spots before her? Brands. Online shops. A few affiliates and a few eco friendly orgs.
Now, going back to Circle of Mom’s list…I picked out a blog with the words eco friendly in the blog’s name and went hunting for a post on that blog’s about cleaning products. Sure enough I came across a post with the words cleaning and products in the url.
Now I gotta tell you, this blog has a really great advice, a good Alexa, an establish PR, is super quick, user friendly and pretty.

And that post was shared on facebook 250+ times.

The post url also includes the keywords I searched.

Eco friendly and cleaning products.

It’s a well written post.

Why the hell didn’t I find this post in the first 88 spots of the google search?

Mom bloggers are blogging and working their hearts out. It’s not always writing for fun. When you agree to do a review there’s a lot of work that goes into it. And those posts should not be buried on page 9 and beyond.

So it’s another step in my journey. Sharing what I know. Helping to empower other moms on line.

There’s info about the Google Luv Course here.

It includes a video that shares how I’ve been generating a steady income from my blog.

The special pricing ends tonight, since class technically starts tomorrow. However I’m leaving the link up until midday tomorrow for those who can watch 2 ten minute videos and write me a 1000 word post by Tuesday late afternoon. The next round of classes starts in 2 weeks!

I provided my class their first two exercises a bit early so they’d have the weekend to work on it. we’ve got questions and comments going on in the comments section of the exercise page and i’ve got to tell you, there’s been great questions and i’m just loving it!

Are you on a journey? What’s your next step?

  2. “Sharing is Caring” and that goes both ways. If you are willing to give ‘something’ most people respond to that in a positive way. And will be willing to share with you too. It’s a two-edged blade.
I have stumbled upon blogs you mentioned. Kick-ass layout and content, the works. Like you said with a lot of blood sweat and tears invested in it. and 5000 hits over the last year…
I have learned much from you over the past year or so trying to get things going on my blog. It is starting to pay off now. I don’t depend financially on my blog (yet) but honing SEO and other skills helps. A lot.
