I’ve noticed Triberr has gotten a pretty bad rap lately. I’ve actually been told that it’s a tool for spamming my twitter followers. From what I’ve learned about Triberr so far, I’d say that’s bullshit. True, there are tribes on Triberr that are abusing the power of automation. But that’s not Triberr’s fault. That’s the tribe’s Chief’s fault. Keep reading, I’ll explain soon.
Why do I give a rat’s ass? Well, as y’all know I love twitter, I follow some wicked bloggers and I believe in sharing and promoting my fellow bloggers. If you’ve been by recently, you also know that I’m a busy work-at-home mama now. So 90% of time I spend in front of my mac is allotted to my clients.
That being said, my time is limited. My time to engage, my time to read blogs, my time to share awesome posts – limited. And I won’t lie to you, Twitter is where I always start. It’s very rare for me to find time to blog hop or play on facebook. Except for my closest bloggy friends that are in my inbox (Angel, you have no subscribe by email signup), everything else I read I find in my twitter stream.
Now, if I can automate something, you can bet your ass I will – within reason. I automate tweets about my newest post. We all do. We all like being able to hit Publish on a post and have it automatically posted to twitter and facebook and linkedin. So what’s wrong with automating tweets promoting a new post from a blogger you respect? A blogger you KNOW blogs with integrity.
So I’m test driving Triberr and ya’ know what? I’m liking it.
Here are a few terms you should know:
Triberr offers free tribes that max out at 7 members. You’re allowed to be a member of 4 tribes. To be added to a tribe you need to be invited, whether it be by a friend or acceptance of your application to join a specific tribe. Once you’re accepted into a tribe, you can build your own tribes. The free account allows you to build a max of 3 tribes where you would be the chief.
Triberr has systems in place to prevent your “tribesmen” from double tweeting your posts and to avoid your tribesmen all tweeting your posts at the same time (so no worries about spamming your shared followers with the same post 4 times in 5 minutes).
Being the Chief of a Triberr tribe means you’re bloody responsible for those in your tribe and for your twitter followers.
If you have 3 tribes with 6 tribesmen who publish posts 6 times per day, (and they are publishing crap) then, yes you will be spamming your twitter followers.
Whether or not you care, is totally up to you.
If a tribesman finds that there are too many tweets from fellow members going out to his or her twitter stream, leave the damn tribe.
And hello? You don’t have to auto-tweet. It is possible to hold those post tweets in a queue and look through them and decide which you want to share and which you don’t. However, this option, using Triberr in manual mode, defeats the purpose of using Triberr to save you time.
Those who stayed in spammy tribes because the reach count is high and those who’ve been assaulted by Triberr members via their twitter stream, consider using Triberr as being spammy and anti-social. But again, that fault lies with the chief and the tribesman.
Now if you still think using Triberr is anti-social, then this must be true too: Every time you auto publish your post or share a friend’s post, you’re also being anti-social.
Triberr can be used for good. It can be used to free up your twitter time by auto-tweeting posts that you would tweet about anyway. That’s productivity people. That’s continuing to share your favorite bloggers’ posts even when you’re busy. That’s more time to engage. That’s also more exposure for your blog.
Use Triberr with integrity people.
And be cool and share this post so others will use Triberr with integrity too.

NO, that’s not what I meant. I’m not leaving the tribe. I meant I’d give it a couple of weeks and then add another tribe to my account, not ditch yours
Sorry for confusion.

Hehe. I figured but couldn’t help myself. LOL. Oops sorry. I think Christal has started a new tribe too. I originally came into triberr as part of a tribe consisting of two bloggers. They had a huge following between the two but after 4 weeks didn’t produce one post. I didn’t understand triberr at the time and left the tribe and went off determined to start a more active tribe. Silly me didn’t realize I could stay in that tribe too and benefit from their auto tweets. :/

I haven’t had any issues with the tribe you set up Vanita. I’m thinking of letting it go another couple of weeks and then seeing about setting up my own tribe as well.

I agree that anything can be abused if but in the wrongs hands. Hell, even HANDS can be a tool for destruction if the intent is wrong. I think that the way you’re handling Triberr is very responsible and its a great way to promote the posts of people that you read regularly. There are quite a few bloggers who consistently put out great content and I’m 100% confident sharing it even if I’ve not had the chance to read it yet.
@Eve I think that telling people to go to a store you never shopped at isn’t quite the same thing. You’re telling people go to a store you’ve shopped at, liked, and telling them to see if they can find something that they like, too. I think that’s why Vanita chose the people to be in the Tribe that she did
There is no way in hell I’d do this with people I didn’t respect AND trust

I love the concept of personal responsibility and choice. I’m way new to Triberr but I’m interested and will be focusing more on it. Besides I like being Chief of SOMETHING.
You’re a very direct person. We don’t have to read between the lines with you. You and I have had some very honest conversations that were frank and realistic. That’s what I love about you. You care enough to have integrity. And holy crap are you popular. Again its that honesty and integrity that make so many people want to hear what you have to say and discuss things with you or ask your opinion.
That being said, I trust your perception of Triberr and want to check it out further.
Oh and Angel…haha you got in trouble!!

Dang! Did y’all see that? I just got called out! LOL. It just so happens that my mother in law needed to subscribe to my blog again, so last week, I added a generic subscribe widget to the very bottom of my sidebar. It’s easy to miss because it’s below the fold, but it’s there, thank you very much! I don’t like it and when I find the time to tinker or find one more consistent with my theme, I’ll bring it up higher. I’ve just been spending a lot more time promoting a sense of community among my followers that I haven’t focused on the blog so much. I need to get back to it more, but time is a factor. I have too many irons in the fire…which is a perfect segue to my opinion of Triberr. It’s about efficiency and trust. I’d only join a tribe with other bloggers I’ve developed a relationship with and who write well consistently. Why not promote their work based on the sheer integrity of our relationship? That’s true networking and it’s done daily throughout our society. Furthermore, I work a full-time job, I’m trying to get two business off the ground. I will not be on twitter, FB, or G+ constantly. I just won’t. This doesn’t have to hinder my ability to interact with people I have chosen to connect with. I’ll be online eventually, but when I’m not, why not use a vehicle like this to promote and be promoted. I believe in automation completely and when it’s done well, the effectiveness is definitely measurable. Thank you for including and thinking of me, as usual. I’m digging Triberr completely.
Well I know being part of my support group you would read it. I couldn’t help calling you out when it popped into my head. You know I love ya’ girl. And thanks for sharing your take on Triberr. I totally appreciate it and I am honored that you joined my tribe. LOL i feel like i’m 7 playing Pocahontas, talkin’ ’bout “my tribe”. Your are Awesome Angel.

Vanita, if I didn’t know any better I’d say you were pissed off at me for not joining your Tribe. I never said it was spamming, I said it was spam-like. I get that you don’t have a ton of time, but Twitter is supposed to be engaging, which means you have to actually be present to engage. I love your posts and Christal’s too. I’ve retweeted you both several times, but not every single post you’ve ever written. Why? Because 1.) I don’t relate to all your posts. (and that’s ok) 2.) I sometimes don’t get around to reading all your posts. (but I do later)
If I haven’t read your most recent post, how can I tweet it to all my followers? That’s like telling people to read a book I’ve never read, or shop at a store I’ve never been to before. I don’t like it, I think it defeats the purpose of being on twitter to engage and be social. I love your blog Vanita, I really do. You’re amazing and I’m proud of where you’ve taken it. That being said, I like to be the one who decides when I share your awesomeness with my followers. That’s all.
Eve recently posted..Expecting Too Much: An Apology to My Husband
Hahaha. You’re kidding me right Eve? You couldn’t have just sent me an email and asked me if I was pissed at you? Or given me a call? Remember I gave you my phone number the day after you said Triberr wasn’t your thing.
1. Before I write a post about any social media network or tool I do my research. I don’t base my post mainly on one conversation. Many of the people I’m connected to on twitter have already used Triberr. Some are still using it, some aren’t. I also know how to use Google and search for reviews.
2. Using Triberr is about community support and trust. My tribe is for offering exposure to those bloggers who I support and trust to put out quality content. Those bloggers I read everyday from my inbox.
3. My twitter stream is very diverse. I can’t cater to everyone, but I know the bloggers in my tribe, the few that I hand picked and sent invites to, are good bloggers that many in my twitter stream can relate to. The bloggers I invited, have never shared a shitty post with me and I trust them with access to the rest of my followers.
4. The point of using Triberr, for me at least, is to free up time To Engage and to be sure I support my fellow tribesmen even when I’m too busy to tweet (which I’ve had a few days of lately). Remember that commenting support group I started? Remember how the support dropped off after we all became busy? I see using Triberr as a way for me to support my group.
That is all Eve. I’m sad you took this personally. I’m not pissed at you. If I were, I would not have given you my phone number. I don’t expect people who’ve never met me to trust me, though I’ve been blessed with excellent people who do trust me not to screw their twitter stream and have joined my tribe. Engaging is not all about sharing posts. I don’t need to be present to share a post, but I’m always present when I socialize.
