Miracle on Facebook (?)
Yeah I know what you’re thinking.
V? What? What’s Wrong with you?
Since when do you associate miracles, or anything good for that matter, with Facebook?
Yeah, I know.
But no, I’m not drunk, I’m not insane and Mark Zuckerberg has not hacked my blog to make his biggest non-fan seem like she’s now kissing FB’s ass.
Here’s the deal…
I’ve Finally Found A Use For Facebook
Ya’ heard me.
Finally.
That alone is bloody amazing.
So here’s the story.
Being an only child who’s shied away from cousins the past 20 years, and being a hermit who’s too busy taking care of her own family and working from home to actually get out and socialize with friends, when the shit hit the fan this weekend, I felt pretty alone in the drama.
When the ER doctor and a CT Scan both confirmed my almost 16 year old brilliant daughter had appendicitis, i remembered something I’ve learned from two of my blogging sistahs, Christal and Kathleen.
When in need, ask others to pray for you.
At almost 6pm, after being transported to another hospital for surgery and not seeing the surgeon yet, I sent out a call for prayers and so many on facebook answered I wanted to cry.
As the hours dragged on and my girl was being pumped with morphine and antibiotics, being put on hold while sicker patient were cared for, I found support from my facebook circle of friends.
As more hours passed and she got better, though they starved her and unintentionally emotionally traumatized her in the name of helping her, we waited on the surgeons to make decisions about making decisions. I thought I’d lose my mind, end up in the psychiatric ward one floor above us, but my friends, some i’ve known many years offline and some i’ve barely known 2 years online, helped me keep my sanity and continued to offer prayers and their help.
Vanessa came home last night. Appendix intact. The antibiotics has cleared up the infection, and though she’s still on antibiotics as a precaution and we have to watch her like a hawk until her scheduled appendectomy in 4 weeks, she’s home. Able to eat. Comfortable. Scared. But home with family.
So yes, I finally found a use for Facebook.
And yes, I have to associate it with this miracle that my child went into the ER with appendicitis and within 12 hours, instead of her condition getting worse, it improved.
There really was no way I could reach out to so many friends so easily if it weren’t for Facebook connecting us all.
A special thank you to all you wonderful people who prayed for us. I won’t forget this day and yes, I’ll probably ask you again in 4 weeks. Please know I’m always here to offer the same.

You don’t have to ask me to pray, Vani. I’ll be thinking of you and Vanessa when I light the lamp in the morning. Every. Single. Day. She will be fine.

I am so glad you had support through what must have been an agonizing experience! I really have a love/hate with FB! That is wonderful news that your daughter has improved and can have the surgery scheduled – much safer! Sending my prayers too!!!

I’m so happy to hear that she was able to go home and is recovering. Her smile makes me smile.
Yes, Facebook is good for that. It makes keeping in touch so much easier.

Oh goodness V, I’m so sorry you guys had to go through this! Especially for Vanessa-I know how downright scary hospitals can be and when you’re sick on top of everything else, it’s nerve-wracking! I can’t tell you how furious I am at those doctors for putting your daughter through that. I went through some similar things on my journey early on and it always upsets me when I hear about children and young adults going through the same thing.

Thanks for sharing it all about your daughter and the obstacle you have been through
It’s not easy to respond with all details that time and now we got to know. Glad she’s back home but it’s great if she were able to remove before she came home. Anyway, our prayers with her until she comes out with nothing to worry about.
