What will happen to Google?

I found this funny (i’m a search engine marketer, i can’t help finding these things funny).

Wanted to hear what your thoughts were on it.

Opened up Firefox this morning and the first thing i noticed was my Alexa toolbar was reporting Google as ranking as #2.

Screen Shot 2012 09 23 at 9.00.57 AM 600x278 What will happen to Google?

Not sure when this happened. Yes, I can be behind on the times when I’m busy.

So I was bloody shocked.

And then asked on Facebook who was number one. Not even bothering to look at FB’s alexa cause, well, you know how much I think of FB.

Fact is Facebook is #1.

It’s still #2 in the US, but globally it’s number one.

So I had to dig around.

Facebook ranks #1 in these countries:

  1. Venezuela
  2. Pakistan
  3. Argentina
  4. Turkey
  5. Colombia
  6. Greece
  7. Romania
  8. Peru
  9. Chile
  10. Indonesia
  11. Thailand
  12. Mexico
  13. Brazil
  14. Malaysia
  15. Algeria
  16. Nigeria
  17. Philippines
  18. Egypt

Google ranks #1 in these countries:

  1. India
  2. Ukraine
  3. Portugal
  4. United States
  5. Iran
  6. Bangladesh

I’m kinda surprised. I mean, Google finds a way to get into everything and

BE EVERY WHERE.

I know…I know…Facebook is all the rage these days…you young folk.

I personally think the bloggers did it.

Yep.

GFC…gone.

Now Feedburner’s going down the drain.

Seriously, one of my fav bloggers lost 300 subscribers just last night. On one of her 5 blogs. And the other 4? They’ve all zeroed out. All the subscribers magically disappeared.

Back to my theory…

I say the bloggers are boycotting Google.

And they’re smart enough to do it by spending all their time on Facebook.

Give it that bit of oomph it needed to go from #2 to #1.

What’s your theory?

Besides the obvious.

Looking for wild but possible or just plain funny.

Or you can just rant about feedburner.

It’s all good.

Except Google…it’s not so good, now is it?

  1. So explain this to me I have people reading my feedburner feed but no subscribes and my feed works so what’s up with that?! What to do now, am I actually going to have to get my butt in gear and do a newsletter?

    • i think its too funny that when u were visiting me i was visiting you!
      lol
AND OMG you saved $35 bucks? thats amazing.

      • That is too funny ! :)

You can save a lot of money on grocery/household/beauty products. :) Just focus on buying a couple extra of the items your family uses most when they’re on sale. I try to keep couponing and saving money as easy as possible. :)

  3. Hilarious. Yesterday my son asked me what would happen if Google disappeared. :D

Incidentally Feedburner has a prob with its stat counter. Otherwise it is apparently okay. :D For now.

Still, makes one shit bricks to look at the subscriber count showing zero. Eeks. What is the alternative? Is it time to figure out how to use MailChimp or something?

    • lol. if you move to mailchimp, you can’t move those subscribed via RSS. however, you could have both and just stop pushing the feedburner version and push the mailchimp version. and download your subscribers who are subscribed by email. but remember, with mailchimp, to send out a post everyday within the month, for free, you can’t have more than 400 subscribers. if you do, you can update to the paid package. i like the mailchimp version and that i can control what’s in the footer or sidebar

  4. Yeah, I guess they’re just having trouble with the stat counter showing up, but it’s making me more and more wary. Maybe I’ll just ban all subscribers to my blog. Won’t that make people want it even more?

    • yeah you can puh your facebook likes up so people only get your updates in their stream…but what if they miss it? lol

  5. Wow, it’s like the world has shifted seismically. You think bloggers huh? Interesting theory and not surprising! GFC is gone and Google Plus is a “crazy uncle” joke. Makes sense to me. So… you gonna embrace Facebook now?

  6. This is fascinating! I have a love, mostly, hate relationship with Facebook, so that the rest of world isn’t like me is kind of shocking. lol.

    • i’m like u sistah so no worries! peas in a pod!

  7. I am NOT surprised at all that Facebook is #1 in Malaysia. People use it as their personal journal, go-to for news, now they’re claiming coupons and such on it too.

If Google ceases to exist, I will be sad though. I do love Google.

Yes, I just said that. :)

    • it’s quite possible that we in the US are not smart enough to claim coupons on it. i need to find Children Place’s page and see if they have coupons for facebook fans. lmao at you loving google.

  8. Well, I do love Google, and Facebook too. For now I’m happy with many online products and services. I remember how GFC disappeared with over 200 followers though am on Blogger ;) How Friendster abandoned. They come and go if strategies are not desirable for users and growth. There are predictions that Facebook growth will slow down from 2020. May be new social network will hit the web. Anyway we have to accept changes and move with ‘em all the time ;) Gotta limit dependencies…

    Cheers…

    • ya know, as much as i like twitter, i don’t see it ever being number one.

  9. Google isn’t going anywhere. They may tweak services, experiment and play around but they are not going to disappear any time soon.

    • Hey Josh, next time, read the actual post before you comment dude.

      • I did read the post, twice. You asked for a response and I gave you one. I could have opted for the “great post” but that wouldn’t have been much fun.

I played around with badmouthing the Yankees but you probably wouldn’t care about that. Then I thought about coming back here and writing some snarky remarks about what I could have written or should have written about sassy and snarky mom bloggers.

It would have been fun but dad bloggers get that sort of crap flung at them too so I figured I might not share that. And then I figured it might just be nice to say that there was a misunderstanding here. I left a comment in good faith and well, it apparently wasn’t loved. So I am going to crawl under the desk now and mope.

Vanita, you might be surprised by who visits you here.

        • Josh it was so kind of you to read the post twice… and yet, you didn’t notice “Looking for wild but possible or just plain funny.” I guess you didn’t find any humor in my post, which is quite alright, many don’t get my brand of humor, which is why I mentioned “Looking for wild but possible or just plain funny.”

As for your comment not being loved…well of course i loved it, you were so kind not to call me a snarky mom blogger and also to calm the fear i was causing by stating the obvious. want a medal? did you really think I believed the bloggers were boycotting Google? Really Josh?

And Josh, all are welcome, so you stating I’d be surprised is a moot point.

And last but not least, I’d like to point out, I enjoy your writing and I agree that people need to add some human to their business blog. It’s a shame that you consider me a snarky mom blogger – we good have been…civil acquaintances.
