Create An Ebook in 6.5 hrs (when a blogger insults you)

I haven’t worked weekends in a while.

Feels pretty damn good.

I’ve also been a bit bored.

I did get to watch Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Thank you Ann for the great review and telling me it was on demand. The teens, the boy and I loved it!

Besides the movie, yeah, I’ve been pretty bored.

So when a fellow mom blogger asked me Saturday to interview me for an upcoming post about how I was able to start a business from my blog, and how her readers would really appreciate hearing my story because so many of them wonder how to go from mom blogger to mom entrepreneur… well…I jumped at it.

Along with the interview, she asked me to include a letter to other mom bloggers who wanted to become entrepreneurs. (Today was my deadline for that letter.)

We were scheduled for Sunday, I arranged it during nap time, so I made a cup of coffee and headed to my desk.

To find that she’d cancelled via email 10 minutes earlier.

Which is cool, in a mom’s life, shit happens.

As I continued to read the email, I learned that she’d found my blog to have “too many cuss words” and had changed her mind about interviewing me. She said HER readers would be offended to read my blog and she’d be embarrassed to share my posts and that I should consider changing my blogging voice because she’s a pro and she knows what she’s talking about.

Which is cool. Keep moving lady. Should have read the bloody homepage. There is a damn warning there, ya’ know.

Anyway, I now had all this free time set aside (ok, an hour) and had nothing to do.

So…I figured…how about I pull out the old mic and interview my own damn self. icon wink Create An Ebook in 6.5 hrs (when a blogger insults you)

WMBKAAMEbook 237x300 Create An Ebook in 6.5 hrs (when a blogger insults you)That 30 minute convo on the Mic, using Dragon Express to transcribe, created the ruff draft of Why Mom Bloggers Kick Ass As Mom Entrepreneurs And How To Get Started, Mom Blogger Style.

I spent Early Monday morning editing (2 hours) and nap time was spent finishing up the editing (1.5 hours) and designing the cover (1.5hrs). After Bedtime icon biggrin Create An Ebook in 6.5 hrs (when a blogger insults you) I generated an ebook cover (10 minutes) set up Pay With A Tweet, (10 minutes) emailed my subscribers (30 minutes) and went to bed.

Silly me didn’t enter the bit.ly shortcode for the landing page so there were a few tweets during the night that went out with an example link. LOL. Live and learn.

I’m pretty damn proud of this ebook. For the 6.5 hours it took me, it’s still a quality piece.

Reviews/Feedback is coming in as moms get a chance to read it. You can find their responses on the ebook’s page.

If you do read it, I’d appreciate your feedback on it there.

And it’s all in my bloody voice.

Don’t let anyone hold you back mamas.

Big Bloody Hugs to You All

Vanita

p.s. if you’re not offended by my blogging voice, I’d truly appreciate you sharing this post.

  1. Just downloaded the e-book and so excited to read it. Vanita my friend, you are blessed because you are as real as one can be. Many of us would love to be as frank as you are on your blog but just don’t have the guts. You do and you are proud to be what you are. That is precisely why I love your blog and its voice. And even though I don’t have cuss words on my blog, I would never hesitate in linking up to your blog because if we are not true to ourselves then who are we? Keep going girl !!

    • ya know, i didn’t care that the interview flopped, what bugged me was i was excited to write that letter, to give fellow mom bloggers something to help inspire them and show them it’s not that hard to get started.
all in all, everything happens for a reason.
worked out pretty damn well and drove me to turn it into an ebook to include what i’ve been meaning to share.

  4. :-) I am away five days and you’ve gone and given your blog a makeover! Looks very very nice, Vanita.

6.5 hours eh? Hmm. I can do that for clients but not for myself. Aren’t I a klutz? No need to answer coz we know it, right?

Congratulations – you’re just amazing. I am super-impressed you just went and put a book out there in just 6.5 hours! I can’t get over it.

What you wrote about the interview….well. Not surprised. I think you’re a supercool chick. What’s more, my soul-sis. Hugs and may you rise higher and shine brighter! I wish there was something we could do together. :-)

  5. First of all, remind me never to offend you. I don’t think I want to be on the receiving end of your fantastic voice :)

And secondly, congrats on the e-book! Did you find editing from Dragon Express to be difficult? I’m majorly curious about that software…

    • it was pretty simple girl. i didnt have to change any words. just place a few commas and bold stuff. the major editing was expanding on the topics, adding links, the checklist, the inside scoop and the about me page. and the index page. i hate making index pages in Word. blah. the app is pretty damn good. i even went looking for an affiliate link, it’s that good. but signing up with Apple seemed like too much work. lol

  6. Vanita,

Give me her name and address and I will make sure that she joins us on our great Ikea adventure. She’ll be the guinea pig we use on the chairs with the screws. ;)

    • i got those damn stitches again when i read this. you kill me Jack. i think she’s missing a few screws already.
if i had the tendency to drop the f-bomb or refer to female dogs, i’d understand.
then again, why ask to interview me if you haven’t read my posts?
      come on…
i think there may be a screw loose behind her keyboard.

i did consider calling her out in the post, but decided i don’t want to send her any traffic. anyway, i guess i should be thankful, because i ended up producing something i’m pretty damn proud of.

  7. Hi Van,

Oh no no, I’m not a mompreneur :D You know it. I just wanna congratulate you for your ebook. 6.5 hours, impressive. Proudy, huh? ;)

I know how your voice goes, but it doesn’t matter changing it to a formal voice for another blog you wanna write. Anyway if they don’t like recommending your posts, they can ask just to view your blog if readers are not offend it. So it can work out know? ;) However each blog has certain rules, and sometimes they are not flexible. Oh no, it’s not a fault, but missing opportunity, no? :) I’m getting a clue in your words too.

Keep on your way and do what you good at dear. Ah, I love your redesign too. Awesome and NEATY ;)

    Cheers…

    • “I know how your voice goes, but it doesn’t matter changing it to a formal voice for another blog you wanna write.”

Actually Mayura it does matter. My voice speaks of ME.

I will not change my voice for anyone.

I’ve won projects from businesses because of my voice and direct approach. I have a returning client for the past 3 years and when I first emailed him, the first line was “THis is why your website sucks”. He has recommended me to many of his own clients since, standing by my work and my personality.

I do not need to change my blogging voice. It would be changing me and i will not do so.

If a blogger would like to work with me on a project, interview me or publish a guest post from me, they’ll have to accept me the way I am.

I don’t add in words like bloody and hell for fun, it’s how i express myself.

i don’t really give a rat’s ass who doesn’t like it. they can move on to the next blog.

i appreciate what you’re saying, but I am who I am and i won’t bend for anyone.

      • Errrrrrrrrrr…. Vaaaaaaaaaaaaan…. Ha ha :D It’s not about changing your inner spirit. Be who you are girl. People like us the way we are. They need our talent and our skills. When we start to make use of our talents, they are just not ours anymore. We think we own talents and all. But nah ha. No, don’t change your voice. It’s not what I meant. This is what I meant dear. Think you wanna write a post for kiddies on another blog. Wouldn’t you responsible for what you gonna say? ;) It’s not changing you, but changing frequency of your voice.

        Cheers…

  8. You WANT to say, “What the hell?!” when people like that tell you to change your blogging voice and that you aren’t worthy of their website, but what you SHOULD say is, “Thank you!” Say what? I’m a true believer if that didn’t happen, your book would never have come about :)

So, firstly, I LOVE your blogging voice; don’t you dare change! Second, congratulations on your book. 6.5 hours is incredible ^.^

  9. You go girl! I think it’s amazing that you created something so quickly, and that you took what could have been an ugly situation and turned it into something good.

This blogger person? She knows very little, clearly.

  10. HahaHAHHHahahahahHAHaha… oh my, Vanita!

    I love this!

See, I was to be interviewed for a TV show 8 months ago or so, and I had a similar experience.

The chick LOVED me, but she was scared that I might cuss on air.

Even though I had about 10 solutions, she was so passionately closed to even the idea that I *might* swear that I just gently got up and left our meeting.

Her mouth agape, she began sputtering telling me I wouldn’t succeed.

    It was hilarious.

I wrote more about it in a comment on Nathalie Lussier’s blog here: http://nathalielussier.com/blog/marketing-blog/the-power-of-walking-out

On top of *that* – I wrote a very passionate post on Why I Swear (I do it with purpose), which I’ll gladly link if ya want.

Anyway, good for you, and way to take inspiration from it. (and nice job leveraging the cover generator + dragon)

    Rock on and ryze up!

    • thanks Jason! you would think a person would thoroughly look into your work before contacting you, ya’ know? i mean it says on my homepage that i use “these” words. sheesh. i’m glad you walked away and i’m not surprised at all that you would. and yes, please do share your link!
i know some may find my use of words offensive and that’s okay. it’s how i express myself and i’ve never had the intention to please all the people all the time. so to hell with it. i write as i speak. this is how i speak. it’s why my 3 year old says damnit and crap and jesuschrist. (oh teachers are gonna love me when he starts school.)

      • There’s all kinds of people.

Many feel the presence of a powerful person, and then try to skip steps and meet them the shortest way possible.

Others do due diligence and explore that person deeper before approaching them.

I know which I prefer to attract, and since I walked out on that interview I’ve had a much better results in my collaborations :D

I *LOVE* how you’re raising your 3 year old. Language evolves, hopefully our youth helps this along smoothly and better than most of the older generation (yourself excluded.)

Here’s my perspective on swearing: http://ryzeonline.com/swear-to-offend-you

        I think you’ll enjoy it :D
