Tech Issues
broken mac, rss feed, plugins
Just a quick tip for my fellow wordpress bloggers. If your shortcodes aren’t loading and all you see when you publish is the actual code and not the element the shortcode should produce – for example, a slider – run through your plugins my peeps.
I’ve been trying to add a smooth slider to my best bud’s Chrissy’s blog for a week now. I’ve tried multiple sliders to find that the shortcode would produce nothing. I finally gave up and deactivated plugins and reactivated plugins to find that the My Live Signature plugin was the culprit.
Now that may not be the plugin giving you a hassle, you may not even have it installed.
So install the plugin you want and then:
If it doesn’t work, then it isn’t an existing plugin issue. I would suggest installing a similar plugin that allows for shortcode use. If that doesn’t work, then hell I don’t know what the heck the problem is. Seriously, i won’t lie.
If the shortcode element works after deactivating all existing plugins, you’ll need to reactivate each plugin one by one, checking the shortcode element between each activation. Once the shortcode element disappears, you’ll know that the last plugin activated is the culprit.
And that’s it folks. That’s all I got to say. Hope I’ve helped somebody in someway.
Shame, Shame, ShameThis is what I feel. See this phone? Cost hubby $200. Gift.
I love him, so I faked happiness when I initially saw the phone. I’ve been considering an android. Half-heartedly. I’m a Mac girl. I love all things Mac. For at least the past 12 years.
I have a Mac Mini, an iBook, an iTouch and I use to have an iPhone. Not to mention, I’ve had every generation of the classic iPod and a Shuffle and a Mini iPod. Plus, for the last 12 years, while employed, I’ve worked on every type of Mac you can think of, from the neon iMacs to today’s never version to a G5.
I Love Apple. Windows, PCs, they have a high ick factor as far as I’m concerned.
As I mentioned, I had an iPhone for two years. Then I lost my job and the AT&T bill was already outrageous. There was no way I could keep the plan. So I turned off my service but continued to use the phone with WIFI. It slips into my pocket. I can easily check email, check my indeed job search agent, customize my cover letter, email it with my resume, check twitter, slip it back into my pocket and then go about my business with the tots. When I burned my 3GS out, hubby bought me an iTouch. The man loves me and I loved my iTouch.
However I’m imprisoned at home because I need WIFI access. I’m job hunting all the time, can’t afford to be without access.
So, I was considering an Android.
Warning: If you’re not a Mac user, you may find this extremely boring past the first paragraph. But, I’m going to write the boring post anyway, in hopes to help any other mom blogger (or any one for that matter) who’s low on funds and in fear of losing all the great stuff on their Mac, like family photos, music, your resume . . .
Several weeks ago my Mac died. This is one of the reasons my blogging went to shit – along with the fact that Network Solutions was offering me non-solutions, but that’s another post. Actually several posts. If interested in those posts, check them out here: Post One, Post Two and Post Three. Now, your Mac dieing is not easily acceptable to anyone, but for me personally it was a horrific nightmare. The kids’ pictures for the past few years was sitting on that thing. My latest wordpress theme design was sitting on that thing. All my newest iTunes purchases was sitting on that thing. My two external drives had been full for months with backed up photos, music, Merlin episodes and home movies. I was meaning to get a new external drive. One where I would have the space for a Time Machine backup. Hopefully 2tb, to back up everything and put the full external drives away for safe keeping. I was meaning to. I just hadn’t gotten around to spending the $100 to do so.
My Mac wasn’t dead-dead, as in no power. It would start-up but never stop rebooting or getting pass the horrific gray screen. I tried everything I could find on several websites, including terminal coding, nothing prevailed. I even spent $100 on Disk Warrior which in no way helped.

It’s after 3am. I’m at my desk. Not cuddled up next to hubby, or Damian who’s invading our bed again. No, I’m at my desk. If you came across my tweets yesterday, then ya’ know I had a shitty day where I was screwed a couple of times.
First, I woke up to find that my post, Sexy Bookmarks Broke My RSS Feed, was posted on onlinerel.com, with no credit to me besides a link back at the end of the post.
Well V, you got a link back, that’s good, right? Nope, it’s bloody useless. If they’d posted part of the post and then added a link back to read the rest, that would have been good. But they post the whole post, so what’s the point of using the link?
Does it matter? Well, yes, it does if you’re trying to gain traffic and get higher in Google Search Rankings. Since onlinerel.com has more pages indexed than my blog, they ranked for the #1 spot when googling “sexy bookmarks broke rss feed”. They ranked number 1 for my post that they didn’t give me credit for.
Now, according to onlinerel.com, I gave them permission to do this. Know what? They’re right. Since Sexy Bookmarks wasn’t working for me, I installed WP Social Bookmarking. This plugin lists publishing to onlinerel.com.
