Can’t I just…Ya Know…Blog?

Every blogging guru will tell you, you’ve got to have fantastic headlines and tight content that’s provocatively entertaining or educational to keep you’re readers in bed with you.

Answer me this…

What if I wake up one day and don’t feel like being provocative?

What if I’m not feeling sexy today?

Can I just let it all hang out?

Will you still love me in sweats and a sports bra?

What if my brain is burned from working too many hours to cover the uniforms I should have ordered last month…Do I still need to come up with scintillating pillow talk?

Do is have to be all high performance and spinning on a pole for you to be entertained? (cause honey I don’t see that ever happening)

Can’t I just, ya’ know, blog?

Does every single damn post have to have some value?

Can I just chat with you over a cup of coffee?

No?

Well…

Screw it.

I’m going to do it anyway, cause not doing it has been keeping me from blogging.

So…Where you been V?

Right here, at this bloody desk, when not with the kids.

Sabrina’s uniforms for her elite college prep high school are gonna cost $600 and I should have ordered them suckers last month.

So I’ve had my butt glued to this chair, moving blogs, designing sites, fixing seo disasters.

It’s all good.

Work is good.

And by the way, I gotta thank you all.

Many of you are great friends.

Truly.

Even when there’s no post up, you guys still pimp me on twitter and I’m grateful.

It’s been bringing me work and I thank everyone of you and you know who the hell you are.

Big hugs to you.

How’s the family V?

The family, I think is good.

Well…we learned last week that damian has serious nut allergy. On a scale from 1 to 6, six being the worse, my son is closer to 6 than 5. this means his nut allergy is lethal.

So we’re reading labels and baking his sweets like brownies, cookies and cakes instead of buying it.

It’s more work, but the kid deserves a bit of sweets now and then.

I’ve decided I’m going to buy custom patches and order them to say NUT ALLERGY and sew them into all his shirts right over his heart.

This way NOBODY forgets.

And while on the subject, let me share with you why networking with moms online is a beautiful thing.

@nerdmommathfun of nerdmommathfun won a book from Pragmaticmom on kids and nut allergies and because of the convo we had on twitter, the woman is sending it to me.

How wonderful is she? Megan DMs me on twitter and says she wants to mail me this book. See? Moms take care of each other, look out for each other, beautiful, isn’t it?

As for the teens and their blog, I’m keeping an eye on them on twitter (which Vanessa freaks me out cause she sounds and acts like me on twitter) and facebook (where Sabrina runs the show). I haven’t had a reason to get pissy yet. The blog is going great and Sabrina is waiting for me to play editor and review her posts but Vanessa has been posting and publishing on her own. The girl has a good grip on what she’s doing.

Sabrina has also been playing personal assistant for me. Creating my to-do list and revising constantly and reminding me of what needs to get done. Vanessa is on hand for all my powerpoint and excel assignments, cause really, I can figure our PHP to run wordpress and I can comp anything in Photoshop, but don’t tell me to use Powerpoint, i’m bloody lost.

So V, you going to Blogher?

I’m getting this one a lot lately. Here’s the deal. I’ll looked through all the workshops and there’s not one damn thing I can learn. I had considered an expo pass so I can hang out, but hubby’s schedule is so iffy, we never know until Friday if he’s going to work Saturday.

He’s an Air Conditioning Mechanic/Technician. I’m sure you can understand why he’s working double shifts and weekends.

So V, how’s the weight loss going?

Have I mentioned Retrofit bloody rocks? I’m down 20lbs now and if I had more time that number would be 40.

My coaches are amazing. There ae days they just don’t hear from me and I think they get that it’s because I’m hiding cause I know I should be working out, but I’m too busy.

And so I find messages on my dashboard like this:

Hon, you’ve always got a lot on your plate – as a mom, as a blogger, as a social media expert, as a wife, as a daughter – let us help you make room for taking care of you. We gotta see it to know what’s up and to be able to help you work through it…

I swear sometimes these coaches make me wanna cry. The support is just that amazing.

If you’ve been considering Retrofit, I’ve got a $500 Discount code for you.

But first,

You can learn more about Retrofit here.

You can take the quiz here.

And you can redeem the discount here.

I am an affiliate, but it doesn’t increase your cost, it lessens the cost and ya’ll know me, I won’t feed you BS.

So V, Whatcha working on?

At the moment, I’m fixing the SEO disaster another designer caused my newest client. Hell, she barely imported half my client’s blog from Blogger and then went on vaca. Really? Really?

I’m also working on the design for Sew Gaelic. You can take a peek here. It’s not laid out yet, that happens when i move it completely to the client’s site. But you’ll see how bloody pretty it is. It was a hard gig. My client asked for pink and sparkly for a business site. She was happy with the compromise.

I’m moving another blogger this weekend as I did for Alison from one domain to another. Alison gave me a great shout out and you can read it here on her excellent post about How to move from one domain to another.

So it’s Saturday V, whatcha got planned?

I’m planning to go put down a down payment on Sabrina’s uniforms and then pick up Damian’s referral from his doctor for the allergist.

I’m hoping to con hubby into cooking.

And then… Work.

Don’t be surprised.

If you got this far in the post, I’ve got to say thank you for still loving me even if I’m sagging and boring.

  2. Hi Van,

Great topic dear :) I think most people made their blogs as marketing suites rather than being on blogging actually… LOL… Actually I do write what I’ve learn. What about SEO and stuff? I do add simple titles imagining what if a person need to find same piece when he/she is in trouble with that. It’s that simple as I wanna help people :) But I like to do it in organized way.

I’m not a big fan of theories such as “You comment, I ll comment on yours”, “You read this, I read yours”, “You like this, I ll like yours” :D LOL… Actually people do that and if I didn’t comment on his blog, he won’t come read my blog… Who cares? ;) If you have a favorite author, wouldn’t you buy and read his most of books? Would you miss your favorite TV show? People just dumb by applying marketing sort of stuff to all and try to integrate ‘em in almost all aspects. I don’t know actually why just a person really care his Facebook likes or Alexa rank than his sweet write up. Anyway it works for some people. No matter what, as I can, I go visit my favorite blogs incl. yours, read if they are interesting and comment. That’s my ANSWER for you :) Call me for a coffee and chat, I ll be right there…

    Cheers…

      • Hey Van,

I know dear ;) But are you making it filled up with marketing, buying followers, asking others to comment on posts? Do you? ;) Nah.. Nah… I think almost all people stop by here enjoying your stuff and it helps on your business too. What? No… I mean don’t ignore search engines, but don’t depend on ‘em. You know what I mean, nah? ;)

        Cheers…

  5. I’m always running around in my underwear on my personal blog. It has no thought to SEO, advertising, or making money unless it’s something I like and want to pimp. Just me ranting or raving. That way I can be more PC on my other sites rofl

HEY, your spam-o-meter asked me to confirm I’m not a zombie looking for a good time. Did you personalize that just for me? :)

  6. What’s not to love about you? I am cool with you, with your sports bra (or without, as the mood takes you!) Let it all hang out!

I am a firm believer of “just blog” :D

Funny thing, I’ve been putting off uniforms for Vidur, too. I must do it tomorrow. Big dilemma….after decades, the school uniform has gotten a makeover – and since they have time until March 2013 for the switcheroo, this guy does not want to wear the new uniform until at least half his class is wearing it, I guess. Still, he’s grown out of his old ones…and I gotta go order the new ones for him. Hmm.

You been one busy Momma, V. Hug hug hug hug hugs! :D Going to Alison’s blog now :D

    • i can honestly say i am definitely feeling better now that Sabrina’s uniforms are hanging in the closet. now i gotta hustle to buy all the other stuff. know anyone who needs a new design? lol

  7. Personally, I think part of opting to follow a blogger and blog is for the blogger themselves; if someone catches my interest, I subscribe. Normally it’s because I get good vibes from them and I’m never wrong *knock wood* Everyone I’ve come across thus far has become a very good friend, including YOU, so I love hearing about your life!

You may not think it’s the most exciting thing, but I care about you and what goes on :)

Like you said, it’s like chatting with a friend over a cup of coffee or doing lunch.

I’m sorry to hear about the kiddo’s allergy-that’s a TOUGH allergy to have when your a little one o.O It’s nice you guys are taking matters into your own hands and making things at home. Honestly, that’s what more people need to do regardless of if they have allergies or not!

    • awww you are awesome Kayla. i love learning about how your days are going to and how you’re doing. to be honest, the blogspot commenting system and my android aren’t chummy and i’ve given up on trying to comment on posts from there, but i get you by email and read you every morning around 6:30am. by the way, love pink pens too. especially sharpee. sharpee makes good stuff.

  8. Hey! That was fun to read- I liked getting a sneak peek into your life, and I think it’s definitely important to get away from all of the blogging rules sometimes, otherwise blogging just gets tedious.
