You Can Just Shove Your Guest Post

Well, not You, you. Them you. No, I’m not drunk, however my mango juice may be going bad and i’m wondering if, like rotting fruit, it now has some alcohol in it.

Anyway…

The Guest Post Offer You Need To Say No To

guest bloggingI keep saying I’m going to tell y’all about this and then the avalanche of “shit to-do” hits me and it doesn’t happen.

Life is busy.

Sometimes we get overwhelmed. Like me trying to design 7 WordPress themes in 7 days…who the hell was I kidding? It’s day 5 and I’ve only got 3 done.

When life gets busy, blogging gets pushed to the backburner. And you feel guilty about it. I hear you, I do.

And having bloggers who write quality stuff guest post is a great idea.

Here’s what isn’t a good idea.

I received these two this week alone and I usually receive once a week.

Hi,

I’m interested in writing a guest post within your blog. Please let me know that in which format, I may send the post.

Looking forward to your kind reply.

Regards,
John

Presumptuous bastard, isn’t he?

Hi,

My name is Brianne and I am a writer and a blogger. I’m just getting in touch to ask if you’re open to reviewing content from freelance. If so, I’d love to put together a high-quality article written specifically for the site.
There is absolutely no charge for this and no strings attached; the only thing I would ask in return is that I’m able to include two do follow links to the sites of my choosing within the article – nothing shady or unethical, just one of the professional businesses I freelance for and I have some ideas that I think your readers would love:

1. Find The Pros & Cons Of SEO
2. Tips To Harmonize Google+ With Other Social Media
3.Basic Fundamentals of SEO Link Building
Do let me know if you’re interested, and if so I can get something written for you over the course of the next few days.

Regards,
Brianne

Brianne did her research and I applaud her for it.

Would I let her guest post? Hell bloody no. Notice that she’s doing me a favor and not charging me but would instead like two dofollow links in return?

I responded to both stating that backlinks from my blog are $35 per link and I’d write the post myself and disclose as a sponsored post.

Why write the post myself? One thing I learned about in niche internet marketing is, there’s such a beast that exists called PLR articles. Private Label Rights articles. Sometimes sold in limited quantities, cause no one wants to get slapped by Google for duplicate content.

Instead of writing their own articles from scratch, internet marketers purchase these articles and replace words with synonyms and rearrange sentences using a spinning software or web based spinning app. Takes 5 minutes at the most. Usually results in a crappy article. Exactly how I use to write my junior high school reports using the encyclopedia back in the day. My teachers didn’t care much and my reports would be graded an 80 at the least. I have higher standards for my blog.

These “bloggers/writers”, aren’t doing you a favor by offering to guest post. They need to submit their articles anywhere with a good Page Rank or good Alexa to get back links to their client’s site. A client who’s paying them. Why shouldn’t you get paid?

Be wary of these emails. If you haven’t received any yet, you may soon. With Google kicking link farm ass, SEO agencies in need of back links for their clients are scrambling for sites to submit posts to.

If you want to help ‘em out, that’s cool, but make sure you’re bloody getting paid for it and you have the right to read, revise or deny their post. AND be sure to state it’s a sponsored post from a guest blogger. If Brianne had offered to pay me, and her post was something that could help y’all, and the links she requested didn’t lead to crap, I would have accepted.

Be wary of favors and remember, your blog, is valuable. You may get legitimate requests to guest post from bloggers who want increased exposure. This is cool. Be sure to check out their website and see what they’ve been writing and expect the one back link they request to lead to their blog. Otherwise, charge ‘em.

That’s all my peeps. This post was inspired by TheJackB’s post, Dad Bloggers Get Paid To Blog. Give it a read. Your time is valuable. Your writing is valuable.

Well I just had a friend want to take advantage of the guest post thing. So I do believe I’ve just officially closed all blogs to guest posting. If friends want to exchange articles and be TRUE guest bloggers that will be different, but I’m at the why bother anymore now. Much easier to say no.

    Wow…wow…wow…

I’m reading some of your posts like an oversized bowl of Chex cereal…LOVE. Thanks for the tips, and now that I’m a more “experienced” blogger, I know that these types of emails deserve scrutiny. I generally say no. But now I know why I should continue saying no, unless to those circumstances you and the other commentators have described.

thanks for stopping by Tracie and I’m always willing and happy to help. a similar thing that internet marketers and bloggers alike do are fake trackbacks. I’m not sure if you can get these on blogger but i get them all the time on wordpress and delete them. it’s basically a comment stating that a link to your blog was placed in someone’s post. some are legit, but others are just a way another way to get a backlink from your site. so those need to be scrutinized too! i just blog them. my tracking software shows me if someone has mentioned my site somewhere.

Yes, some owners does not paid in change of blog. Guest post is different fact. But why you call bastard to the second man?

    Thanks,

  • Interesting, haven’t gotten any of those yet. I wonder how giving companies backlinks affects your Google ranking (paid that is)?

I hate those emails. Usually, after reading a few lines, I just delete them. I had no idea that some people out there would take them seriously. One email I received was from a woman who told me that along with guest posting she’d like to insert an “invisible” link. Huh? Yeah. Delete.

We have something in common, in that we’ve both been contacted by Brianne. Brianne Walters, yes? I asked her to write the guest post, primarily to waste her time, but also to see whether or not the quality was acceptable. I expcilitiy told her that I would only be welcome to her guest post if it was brilliant, and she enclosed a frippery, spot-the-dog piece of garbage.

Perhaps we were both emailed for having brilliant blogs.

I found this through Reddit, by the way. Look forward to your eBook as well.

I get multiple requests every week. My favorite is the fact that they don’t even tell me which blog they are interested in. I do take guest blog posts on a couple of my blogs, with full disclosure that after reading the article I may not post it. But I’m about done messing with it. I’ve worked with one guest blogger for over a year and she gets me an article once a month for my cooking blog. But the quality is deteriorating and I don’t have time to send things back and forth for rewrites, totally NOT my job lol

    I loathe those emails.
Sad thing is some bloggers actually let them do this. That’s why we are underpaid for what we do. It’s because of those bloggers that let people do things for free.
Our time and our blogs are worth it. It is a wonderful platform…we work hard on them…we should get paid….not for free dang it.

Kimberly, some bloggers just don’t feel secure enough to charge. so they take on projects to get a few under their belt. but next month, when i launch my ebook, it’ll contain easy ways for newbies to make money from their posts. no more doing freebies ust to get noticed.
