Time to Refocus the Blog

Blog Focus

It’s time.

Time for me to get a bit more serious about my blog.

Have you ever said that to yourself? Come on, admit it.

I can’t be the only blogger who’s ever just blogged about whatever pops in their head about their life in general.

But after 18+ months of writing, I’ve come to realize what I love the most.

Hazelnut coffee.

AND…

Helping my fellow bloggers. I love sharing my take on all things blogging, seo and social media.

But hey! I’m a mom and wife too, so I can’t help wanting to blog about my life and though I’ve decided to put more emphasis on helping my fellow bloggers promote their blogs, I think I’ve found a medium I can live with.

So, though I’ve said it many times before “I need to get serious about my blog”, I’ve finally taken that leap.

Here’s the steps I took to refocus my blog

I picked my categories. This is not as simple as it sounds. I went through all my posts, and divided them into existing categories and some new categories. It’s easier when you have a new blog. When the blog is new, you take the topic you’re going to blog about and create sub-categories, each sub-category reinforcing the main topic. I couldn’t do that with my blog, I have too many posts I wanted to keep. Some because I liked them and feel they can help others and some because they have a bit of page ranking. These categories can now be found in the menu.

I deleted posts. Ok, not all of ‘em. I kept a majority of my reviews. I kept the majority of all posts really. But I did delete some. They didn’t support my categories and I didn’t see a point of creating new categories just to keep them. Also, when blogging with SEO in mind, having tags (Title, H1-H6) relating to topics you’d like to rank for in search engines reinforces your “authority” on the topic. Too many unrelated topics will dilute your authority – as far as the spiders are concerned.

I organized my Menu bar and added Category Sitemaps.

Check out my Homepage. I updated my WordPress Theme from techy mom blogger to kick-ass design + marketing wahm. With Social Media icons to match! LOL.Yes, I’m THAT good. ;)

Since I’m going “Pro” with the After Bedtime Blog, I switched out the Follow Me tab that was on the right for a Contact Me tab. I’m also starting a newsletter!

I’ve also updated my God Forsaken Elevator Pitch. (it may be too long though LOL)

After Bedtime Blog is dedicated to assisting my fellow bloggers by sharing tutorials, resources and product/service info that can help promote their blogs while still sharing family stories my fellow blogging parents can relate to. ABB also offers WordPress Design services and SEO services for those bloggers needing assistance in building the foundations of their home business.

And there you have it folks!

By the way, to kick off my renewed blog and to promote my WordPress Design + SEO services, keep your eyes peeled for next month’s custom WordPress Theme Giveaway and a special discount on my services!

Eh, forget about keeping your eyes peeled, just subscribe to my newsletter or rss feed. Those who signup for the newsletter will get an earlier heads up and insider info on how they can earn commission from being an affiliate.
